Crab's Gender
Last Sunday, my family and I went to Dampa sa Libis. Why? Nothing special - just a sudden craving for sea foods. So the first step is to go the "wet market" and buy raw meat - fish, squid, shrimps, tahong, scallops, crabs and a lot more. Then you go to the weighing counter where you specify how you want your meat to be cooked - it could be fried, sweet and chilly, buttered-garlic, grilled, etc. Just get a number and once the food's cooked, it will be served at your table.
During the first step, when we were buying crabs, I noticed the sign Babae (Female), Lalaki (Male), Bakla (Homosexual). I was just curious how come even crabs have such gender discrimination. So I asked the sales lady how can you tell the difference.
If it's a Female Crab, it is fat and would have lots of "Haligi" - the yellowish component found inside the shell. If the crab is Male, it is smaller than the Female crab but more firm (muscles?). Now the Homosexual Crab is the most expensive because it's the combination of the Male and Female Crab - not only is it firm but it is also big and fat!!!
Simply amazing!!!
